I have been following your posts about little scruffy very closely.. It got me
to thinking about one of mine before she went to the bridge who had a very
sensitive stomach.. So when her stomach was acting up once, my vet gave me a
highly digestible diet to feed her.. so thought I would share it with you..
Canine Highly Digestible Diet
1/2 cup Cream of Wheat cooked to make about 2 cups.
1 1/2 cups creamed cottage cheese
1 large hard-cooked egg
2 tablespoons dried brewer's yeast (inactive) (found in health food store)or
like GNC)
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon potassium chloride (salt substitute products)
1 teaspoon (4.5 g) dicalcium phosphate (bone meal)
1 teaspoon (5 g) calcium carbonate ( ground egg shells:drug and health food
stores)
also add a balanced supplement which fulfills the canine MDR for all vitamins
and trace minerals.
Cook cream of wheat according to package directions including salt, cool.
Add remaining ingredients and mix well.. Keep covered in refrigerator.
Yield 2.2 lbs..
Oh yea, I forgot.. another thing that is good to put weight
on him is white rice.. you can add a little to the rice cereal or just add the
baby meat to it.. very good and is mild also on the stomach.. you may want to
feed him several tiny meals a day rather than trying to get him to eat it all
at once.. this can upset his stomach.. but he will be able to metabolize the
smaller meals better.. Good luck with Scruffy.
